Effective Delegation

Many people think that the only way to ensure that something is done correctly is to do it themselves. But in reality, time is a limited resource, and it's impossible to manage everything on your own. This is why delegation is a crucial skill. However, it's not unusual to feel disappointed with the results of tasks that have been delegated because they don't meet your expectations. This can lead you to question whether you should have done them yourself in the first place.

When to delegate

If a task doesn't require active decision-making, and the required task is fully specified, and you have control over and knowledge of all possible scenarios and outcomes, then it's a good idea to delegate, as the end result will likely align with your expectations.

On the contrary, if you have zero knowledge on how to complete the task, you won't have clear expectations since you don't know how to do it. This can prevent frustration when the outcome is not what you expected.

Effectiveness

To delegate effectively, you need to have clear communication. Spend some time thinking about what needs to be done, what the goal is, and how you would approach the task if you were doing it yourself. Document everything as clearly as possible, and keep checking in on the progress of larger tasks to make sure that expectations are aligned and that the goals are being achieved.

Delegating is how you scale. In the end, things get delegated to people or machines, and it's a key factor in growing a company. You need to know how to do it. Creating is important, but without scale, it's impossible to go far.
